“The Social & Emotional Competencies are taught and emphasised during the lessons, which complements the Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP) curriculum. The topics on self management and social awareness were especially relevant for the students, and the games / activities gave a fresh perspective. The team also included the use of positive motivation for the students.

“Overall, the school is thankful for the opportunity. The facilitators are positive, enthusiastic, and very patient with the students. The trainer was enthusiastic as well and always proactive in asking for feedback.”

“It can be very hard to manage the selected group of kids due to their high needs, but the volunteers did a good job at keeping them engaged. It is really good that the well-being safety officer was present as well to walk around and check-in on the students.

“Some of the kids will even ask, 'Is there programme today?' They would be sad when they were told there wasn’t, and were especially sad when they knew it was the last session.

“There were two students who were previously very quiet and shy who had the most dramatic change. I was so shocked when I heard Irene* speak up in front of the whole class — it was the first time I ever heard her speak so loudly! I was very proud of Paul* as well when he spoke up and participated, as he tends to have difficulty in a regular class.”
